BFO Starts Europe Tour

English

 Iván Fischer

The BFO will bring two programmes on the tour. They include works by Wagner (Siegfried Idyll, Wesendonk Songs), Beethoven (Symphony No.6.), Mozart (Violin Concerto in D Major, K.218), Stravinsky (Petrushka) and the Finnish composer, Einojuhani Rautavaara (Concerto for Birds and Orchestra). The soloists are Barnabás Kelemen (violin) and Petra Lang (mezzo).

In the Rautavaara piece, birds, from Hungary, in a giant cage will be the soloists, said Fischer. For the Mozart concerto, the soloist Kelemen will play his Guarneri del Gesú, he added.

The orchestra is looking forward to the tour, especially after Russian daily Vedomosti named a performance by the BFO in Moscow the best concert of 2009, Fischer said.

The BFO is playing in Vienna, Paris, Hanover, Essen, Dortmund, Stuttgart, Vaduz and Lyon between January 7 and 15.
