The decision to pick the film was unanimous. The committee praised Bibliothéque Pascal for combining a fantasy world with the real world of Central Europe in a fresh and original way.

The international premiere of the film, a Hungarian-German co-production made with the support of the Hungarian Moving Pictures Foundation, was at the Berlinale in February. The film has since been shown at festivals around the world, and in July it took the CICAE prize in Sarajevo.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will pick five nominations from the submissions for Best Foreign Film at the end of January. The nominations will be announced on January 25.

The 83rd Oscars will take place on February 27 at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.
