The facsimile, with translations of the original Latin and German into Persian, is the work of a local publisher, but was supported by the Hungarian Foreign Ministry and Hungarian sponsors.
The book was written by Georg Tectander, a young Sachsen who accompanied the Transylvanian diplomat István Kakas Zalánkeményi on a trip to Persia with a message from Rudolf II urging Shah Abbas the Great to form an alliance against the Turks. The ambassador fell ill because of an epidemic soon after their arrival in Persia and died in 1603. Tectander returned home and wrote a book about the mission and the two men?s travels called Iter Persicum that became an international sensation.
