British Pianist Takes Top Prize at Liszt Competition

Second prize at the competition, the 45th, went to the Russian Iya Kondratev. The Hungarian János Balázs won the third prize.
 
The first prize came with a 12,000 euro purse. The second and third prize purses were 8,000 euro and 5,000 euro, respectively.
 
The prizes will be presented at a gala concert in Budapest?s Palace of Arts on Monday. Kondratev will play three Liszt songs, one of the composer?s Transcendental Etudes and the Hungarian Rhapsody No.9. Balázs will play the Piano Concerto No. 1 and Ullman will play the Piano Concerto No. 2, accompanied by the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Ádám Medveczky.
 
Fifty-three pianists, including 17 from Hungary, started out in the International Piano Competition in Memoriam Ferenc Liszt. The contest was open to musicians under the age of 32.
