This year?s market features 130 sellers who will present their wares in renovated wooden stands.

In addition to the market?s usual offering of Hungarian culinary specialties, including mulled wine, paprika sausage and chimney cake, seasonal treats like cabbage, walnut and poppy seed rolls, and fish will be showcased this year.

The traditional advent calendar will not decorate the façade of the Gerbeaud House at the square?s north end this year, but a light show will replace it from November 27 every evening between 6pm and 8pm.

Each year, the Christmas market attracts about 600,000 curious people, of whom 40 percent are foreigners, said Vice Mayor Miklós Csomós. About 250,000 of those foreign visitors take home something they purchase at the market, he added.

The Knights of Malta are organising a charity sale of matchboxes, inspired by The Little Match Girl, which will support disadvantaged children.

Saint Nicholas will spend several hours at the market on December 6.

The Budapest Christmas Market is open every day from 10am until 8pm until December 30.
