The BFO will open the 26th Summer Festival of Merano, in Italy, on Thursday. The orchestra will play a programme of Brahms and Dvorák, joined by the Danish violinist Nikolaj Znaider.
The orchestra will repeat the performance in Switzerland two days later at the Gstaad Festival.
Santander, Spain, is the next stop on the tour. The BFO will play there on August 30-31. The first performance will be a repeat of the one in Gstaad, but the second will feature works by Liszt and Mahler performed by the Croatian pianist Dejan Lazic.
The tour will wind up with concerts that are part of the BBC Promenade Concerts series. The BFO will play Liszt and Mahler in a programme to start at 7pm on September 2. In a programme to follow at 10pm, audience members will select works from a ?menu? of 300 pieces from the orchestra?s repertoire.
Both of the concerts in London?s 5,000-seat Royal Albert Hall are nearly sold out. They will be broadcast on the BBC.
