The images are from a trip Müller-Pohle took down the entire length of the Danube in 2005. They show the economic and cultural impact of the river as well as its historical role. Some of the photographs are presented with analytical data to give a fuller picture of the river.

His photos follow the route from the Black Forest to the Danube Delta but equally disregard social-political and geographical surroundings. Müller-Poehle only sees the water.

Bridges, driftwood, the feet of bathers, splashes of water and the Parliament in Budapest are shown, demonstrating that the Danube is not only a line on the map, a geographical feature, but a living substance that shapes all the bodies that get in contact with it. The abbey of Melk appears as a delicate dream that hovers against the blue sky, the line of Baroque houses in Passau appears as if swimming together with the river as it crosses the borders. And one wishes that the metal waste that sticks out of the water at the foot of Szabadság Bridge in Budapest were not there
