John Osborne?s drama ?Look Back in Anger?, which premiered in London?s Royal Court theatre on May 8, 1956, marked the beginning of a new, exciting, but bitter golden age of theatre. With performances, discussions and film screenings, the Theatre and Film Academy has set out to turn the 50th anniversary of this premiere into a celebration of contemporary British drama, complete with a marathon seminar.
The National Theatre Institute and Museum, Hungarian Radio, the Filmmúzeum television channel and the Odeon video rental company will make rare and unique British films, theatre videos and radio plays available to the academy during the event.
Two of the UK?s leading theatre experts, former Royal Court literary manager and theatre agent Mel Kenyon and literary manager of the National Theatre Jack Bradley will deliver talks at the conference. Students and postgraduates at the Theatre and Film Academy will also offer presentations on the works of John Osborne, Edward Bond, Caryl Churchill and Sarah Kane.
Several plays by Harold Pinter, winner of the 2005 Nobel Prize in literature, will be shown on film during the event.
