Part of the Knowledge-Depot Express grant will be used to develop a unified, integrated catalogue that library users can access from their mobile phones or computers 24 hours a day, said FSZEK deputy director László Sóron. People will be able to search not only the library's holdings but the Corvina university libraries system or even the Press Data Base of the Hungarian News Agency, he added.
In 2010 and 2011, the library will organise family days at branches that are open on Saturdays. Day camps are planned for summer, and an internet campaign connected to the Day of Hungarian Culture with the slogan Click on Reading! will be organised.
FSZEK's homepage will get a new look and be expanded to include topical sub-sites.
State secretary at the Ministry of Education and Culture Márta Schneider said the library had made a huge leap from the 19th century into the 21st century. It is said that knowledge is power, but in an age which is awash with information that power can only be had if the data is well segmented and accessible to those who can use it, she added.
FSZEK is spending its Knowledge-Depot Express grant between September 1, 2009 and June 30, 2011.
Some HUF 2 billion was awarded as Knowledge-Depot Express grants, the entire amount allocated.
