The event, which ended on Sunday, included 6,076 screenings. Screenings in Budapest alone drew more than 300,000 people, festival press chief Dorka Tamás said.
The screenings featured 200 films shown in 86 cinemas in 44 cities and towns around Hungary. Tickets for the screenings cost as little as HUF 360.
The festival's most popular film was the animated feature Ratatouille, followed by another animated film Surf's Up. The top-five list also included Evan The Almighty, Fracture and Hairspray.
The Oscar-winning Czech director Jirí Menzel's new film, based on Bohumil Hrabal's novel I Served the King of England, was shown before its official Hungarian premiere at the festival.
Since it started up four years ago, the Celebration of Cinema has drawn more than 1.5 million people to Hungary's cinemas.
