Starting the weekend of June 30 and running until the weekend of August 12, the Chain Bridge will be turned into a pedestrian-only zone with stages featuring performances by first-class musical acts as well as a number of food stands and other entertainment. Among the performers on the line-up are a firemen's orchestra, an army brass band and a Greek dance troupe.

Andrea Koch, spokeswoman for Budapest Fesztiválközpont, which is organising the weekend programmes, says that Budapest aims to elevate its place among European cities famous for their culture to the status enjoyed by Lyon or Barcelona.

The first weekend of the series will focus on theatre. Traditional music will be presented at the following weekend, after which young artists and performers will be in the spotlight. World music will be on the programme on July 21-22, followed by jazz music, then light classical music. Dance music will round out the programme on the last weekend.
