The vocal and instrumental music consort from Leuven will play in Budapest as part of a concert series called Choralis Constantinus 500 - Vocal Liturgical Music in the Habsburg Imperial Court According to 15th and 16th Century Practices, said Katalin Kiricsi of the Musica Aeterna Art Foundation.
Under the leadership of Zoltán Kalmanovits, Musica Aeterna is organising concerts of all of the sacred music played in the Habsburg Imperial court 500 years ago. The series is taking place over three years in six churches.
The concert series was launched in 2008, Hungary's Renaissance Year. The series will run until the feast of Saint Cecilia, the patron saint of musicians and sacred music, in 2011.
The core of the Capilla Flamenca, which takes its name from the court choir of Emperor Charles V, consists of Marnix De Cat (Countertenor), Tore Tom Denys (Tenor), Lieven Termont (Baritone) and Dirk Snellings (Bass).
The performance on Thursday evening will include Heinrich Isaac's mass Missa de Beata Virgine, as well as pieces by Graduale Pataviense.
