Erzsébet Nagy, who heads the archaeology department of the county museums directorate, recently reported to the local council on the excavation which has taken two years.
The team is still documenting the excavation of the basilica which had three knaves, and a three-dimensional model is being built.
The process of inscribing the ruins on the country's list of historical monuments has started, and plans are underway to present the site to the public.
The investor who planned to build an office building on the site is cooperating, Nagy added.
An early Christian necropolis from the 4th century in Pécs - which was earlier the Roman provincial town of Sopianae - was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000.
