Conductor Kobayashi to be Liszt Academy Professor Emeritus

Kobayashi will be awarded the title under a decision by the academy?s governor body taken last year. The title will be presented by rector András Batta at a concert closing a master class the conductor is teaching in Budapest.
 
Kobayashi is no stranger to the Hungarian music scene. He was the winner of the first Hungarian Television International Conductors Contest in 1974, at the age of 34. After the acknowledgment, he became assistant conductor at the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra, where he worked under János Ferencsik. After Ferencsik?s death, he became the orchestra?s principal conductor, from 1987 until 1992.
 
Kobayashi was first a resident conductor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and the Kyoto Symphony. From 1988, he conducted the Japanese Philharmonic Orchestra, holding the position of principal conductor between 1990 and 1994, and again between 1997 and 2004.
