Participating Polish and Hungary literary historians, poets and experts will discuss the works, legacy and importance of Herbert, one of the most translated post-war Polish poets, said Arkadiusz Bernas.

He said Herbert was highly interested in Hungary and that a poem he wrote about the country's 1956 anti-Soviet revolution become the best known among the many poems written about that event in Poland at that time.

A volume containing quotes and thoughts about Herbert by Hungarian noted writers including former president Arpad Goncz, as well as Sandor Csoori and Gaspar Nagy will also be presented at the conference.

The event will be co-organised with the Budapest Petofi Museum of Literature under the Zbigniew Herbert 2008 Year declared by the Polish parliament, Bernas said.
