The 3rd World Conference of Hungarian Architects was held on Friday. The title of this year's conference was "Olympic games - tradition, crisis, solutions?" Among the speakers were the former chief architect of Barcelona Josep Acebillo, President of the UIA Sports and Leisure Work Programme John Geraint, the designer of the Hungarian House in Berlin Peter P. Schweger and Péter Janesch, who won a Holcim International Award for his concept for Hungary's planned government quarter in 2008. The main theme of the meeting was a possible successful bid by Hungary for the 2020 Olympic Games and long-term plans for areas along the Danube River in the capital.
On Saturday, the International Convention of Architecture 2010 contrasted "big architecture" and "good architecture". The speakers at the meeting included the Brit Tony Fretton, Edouardo Souto de Moura from Portugal, the French eco-architect Edouard Francois and Heinz Tesar, whose museums and churches have made him world famous.
The Spring Architecture Festival will close with a gala event for professionals on April 10, a few days after the birthday of Miklós Ybl, Hungary's most famous architect.
