Galambos and Szelei won first prize at the World Championship Same Sex Dancing competition in the United States last year. In Budapest, the couple won a gold medal in the standard category, but, because of an injury, placed fourth in the Latin dance category, beaten for the top spot by a German couple.
Same-sex male and female couples competed on Saturday in standard, Latin dance and show dance categories. The finals of the event featured 18 couples.
The five-member jury came from Hungary, Germany, Israel, Holland, and the United States.
The event was opened by Desiré Doubonnet, one of the competition?s sponsors and the owner of a gay venue in Budapest. Same Sex World Federation chair Christine Jansson also participated at the event.
Desiré?s singers and dancers entertained spectators at the event in between competition entries.
Next year, Holland will host the World Championship Same Sex Dancing competition.
