The EC on Wednesday gave the green light to the government's programme on subsidising filmmaking, promotion, distribution, art cinemas and a tax incentive for international productions filming in Hungary with 231 million euros until 2013.

Hiller said the EC approval is an "outstanding success" for Hungary and would ensure stable, predictable and attractive conditions for filmmaking in the country over the next five years.

He noted that as a result of the Hungarian motion picture act adopted in 2003, direct government funding for film production surged to 57.4 billion forints (248 million euros) in 2007, compared to 6.5 billion forints (28 million euros) granted in 2003.
