The first site is the study room, or Studiolo, of eminent 15th century humanist, scientist and archbishop of Esztergom, Janos Vitez, featuring one of Hungary's most significant medieval fresco collections, in the Royal Palace of Esztergom (N Hungary).

The second is the Royal Palace complex completed in a Renaissance style by King Matthias Corvinus (1458-1490), one of the most luxurious royal residences of its age.

The third is the Great Church of Debrecen, the largest Calvinist Church, built between 1805 and 1824 in a neoclassic style in the eastern Hungarian city.

The fourth is the Castle and Fortress of Szigetvar that became known of the heroic fight of Captain Miklos Zrinyi and his troops against the Ottomans in 1566.

The final decision will be made at a later date by a committee of experts designated by the ministers, Hiller told MTI.

The European Cultural Heritage title is awarded to buildings, memorial sites, parks or cultural heritage objects of outstanding importance in European history.
