The festival will show some of the best Hungarian and foreign dance films, including film adaptations of dance pieces, choreographies made for film and experimental films.
Among the highlights of this year?s festival will be screenings of dance films by the world-famous Rosas company led by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, as well as the British DV8 Physical Theatre, made possible with the support of the British Institute. Renowned directors, such as Peter Greenaway and Thierry De Mey were involved in the making of the films.
A selection of the best films from last year?s festival will also be shown this year.
Dance films require a new approach from both the director and the choreographer, opening new paths of creativity, writes one dance critic. Directors may find the constant dynamism in front of the camera difficult to capture, while the choreographer must cope with the loss of ?security? represented by the stage. Viewers also find themselves with a new task as the three-dimensional stage becomes a two-dimensional screen.
EDIT 2006 presents a fresh opportunity to see how some of the world?s most famous, and youngest, choreographers and directors think about dance, movement, the body, choreography and their relation to film.
The Polish Institute is located at Nagymezö Street 15 in Budapest?s District VI.
