Dance on Pécs2010 Programme

The city will host the Pécs Dance Marathon International Youth Meeting and Folk Workshop between April 26 and May 1.
 
"The Pécs Dance Marathon is a folk event that offers a special opportunity to young people on the occasion of the World Day of Dance (April 29) to learn more about and also, to experience the European traditions of dance," the programme organisers say. "The aim of this event is to make sure that for a week - emerging at the most varied venues - the traditional European values of music and dance are always present."

On May 4, the Irish sensation Michael Flatley will bring his 2010 Lord of the Dance tour to Pécs.
 
The city will host the 3rd Pécs International Dance Festival on September 20-26. Among the foreign guests at the festival will be the Maribor Ballet from Slovenia, the Serbian National Theatre Ballet Troup, Compagnie Marie Chouinard from Canada, Israel's Vertigo Dance Company, Umeda Hiroaki from Japan, Belgium's Ballet C de la B/Alain Platel, the UK's Motionhouse dance theatre and the Ballet Preljocaj from France.
 
On November 25-28, Pécs will be home to Dance Platform, which aims to bring the best contemporary performing artists and professionals from Europe to Pécs.
 
"The event will create an opportunity for...artistic groups, independent artists, foreign performers and various experts to establish long-term cooperation, while the local audience can gain a clear picture of the most recent works of artists and companies performing contemporary dance productions in neighbouring countries," the organisers say. "Guest performers invited to the Dance Platform will come from Croatia, Romania, Slovenia, and Serbia, and according to current plans each country would present three or four productions involving altogether 18 performances to the audience and for appraisal by the experts."

Hungary's own Pál Frenák Company will present the premiere of Across in Pécs at the end of 2010.
