The highlight of the opening day was a performance by the Royal Danish Ballet at the Budapest Opera. The audience included President Laszlo Solyom, Culture and Education Minister Istvan Hiller, Mayor of Budapest Gabor Demszky as well as the royal guests from Denmark.
The Danish ballet company, founded in the mid 1700s, performed August Bournonville's "La Sylphide" and a piece by George Balanchine.
The exhibition entitled "Powergames" features works by eight contemporary Danish artists and is the first event in a series brought by Denmark as honorary guest country to the festival.
