Teachers will arrive from Japan, the United Kingdom, Austria, Germany and Spain for the summer academy which the university is hosting for the twelfth year. About 150 students from nine countries will participate.
Rector of Debrecen University István Fábián said the academy played an important role in cementing the international ties of the university which celebrates its hundredth anniversary this year.
Dean of Debrecen University?s Music Department Mihály Duffek said a total of 337 students had applied to study in the department this year, including 160 who said the school was their top choice. The summer academy has made important contribution to the department?s ?marketing,? he added.
The Kodály Zoltán World Youth Orchestra will rehearse during the summer academy to prepare for concerts in Milan and in Varazdin this year under the baton of Kossuth Prize-winner Tamás Vásáry. The orchestra?s musicians will perform in Italy and Croatia after making concert stops in the Hungarian cities of Kecskemét, Debrecen and Budapest.
