Stanko's ballad-like delivery and electronic accompaniment have brought him a cult following in the region.
Vig has worked in New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas for more than 50 years. Among his partners have been Tony Benett, Quincy Jones, Frank Sinatra, Henry Mancini and Woody Allen. Vig has played in some 1,400 Hollywood soundtracks, and in 2001 he was awarded an Academy Award for his vibraphone playing. Last year, Vig moved from the States back to Hungary, where he was born.
Among the foreign musicians who will take the stage at the Debrecen Jazz Days are the 36-year-old Adam Pieronczyk, one of the best saxophone players of his generation, the RGG Trio and the Prowizorka Jazz Band.
Among the Hungarian performers on the programme are Fusio Group, the winner of last year's eMeRTon prize, Ektár and East Side Jazz Company.
The event will be the last chance for jazz-world fusion fans to hear Djabe, which has played to great acclaim in nine countries on its latest tour.
The Feketeréz Masír Band, composed of the tuba player Tibor Bényei and the percussionist Zoltán Bordás, will play African American Jazz and Blues.
One of Hungary's greatest jazz pianists and composers, János Gonda, who turns 75 this year, will play on September 8.
From Debrecen, the Debrecen Jazz Group and the Debrecen Dixieland Jazz Band will play. The latter has played for the last 22 years of the 36-year-old festival.
