Runners-up for the main prize were the József Attila Museum in Makó and the Ópusztaszer National Historical Memorial Park. The prizes were presented by deputy-undersecretary at the Ministry of Culture Erika Koncz. In 2006, eighteen museums applied for the prize, more than ever before. The Museum of the Year prize is awarded by the Pulszky Society and the Hungarian Association of Museums.
Some 100 institutions from all around the country were present with displays in the garden of the National Museum on Saturday. In addition to showing some of their permanent offerings, they brought with them a playhouse and hands-on arts and crafts sections. Also for the first time, the event featured the MuzExpó, an exposition of companies offering services to museums, such as lighting and security systems.
?I think it?s perhaps most important that those who protect, interpret and display the past for visitors, as well as those who are interested in the past can meet in an informal and pleasant environment, free of constrictions,? National Museum of Hungary director Tibor Kovács said of the event.
The Spring Museum Day has attracted more than 35,000 annual visitors in the past several years.
