The local council will pay for 10 percent of the cost of the project and European Union funding will cover the rest, Rácz said.
The project, to be completed in one year, will make the museum more visitor-friendly, replacing elements built in the 1970s and 80s, said museum director Lajos Lakner. New lighting will be installed in the space where the museum shows its prized Munkácsy paintings, and a special display room will be built in the cellar, he added.
Windows and doors will be replaced, as will the museum?s electrical wiring.
