In 2008 the central theme is dialogue: "the interaction between user and object, the cooperation between client/manufacturer and designer, and the active relationship between designer and society," Design Week organisers say on their website.
The VAM Design Center will also host, from Friday, a wandering exhibition of design from Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The show, called Design Match 08, aims to show the legacy the four countries share as former parts of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Among the 120 exhibitors are 28 Hungarian artists, whose work will be shown until the beginning of November.
Király Street's G13 Gallery and H.O.M.E. magazine will demonstrate the links between fine arts and design with a show entitled Dimensions. In the gallery's Ligne Roset room, visitors can see the ceramic works of the Hungarian designer András Rigler, who lives and works in Paris.
Budapest's Mono Gallery will show shoes by Viktória Csepleő, whose S**k Right! Brand means one-of-a-kind handmade works of art. Visitors may even have the chance to purchase some of the footwear on display.
The Museum of Applied Arts will be the "centre" of Design Week. It will host the ceremony for the presentation of the Hungarian Design Award on October 7, and it will show the best works from all five years of Design Week at an exhibition called FormaTúra. During the week, the museum will have a fashion show and it will put on display the cutting edge of Hungarian design at an exhibition called Taste MOMents.
For the first time, Design Week's organisers have invited a guest of honour: the Dutch designer Marcel Wanders, who will hold a presentation in the Moholy-Nagy Arts University (MOME) on October 10.
