Director István Szabó Celebrates 70th in Budapest, Washington

Among the films on the programme are The Age of Daydreaming (1964), The Concert (1963), Father (1966), Meeting Venus (1991), Budapest Tales (1976), Confidence (1980), Taking Sides (2001), Sunshine (1999), Being Julia (2004), Relatives (2006), Mephisto (1981), Colonel Redl (1984) and Hanussen (1988).

 
Szabó himself will provide an introduction before the screenings of Mephisto and Colonel Redl on March 1. He will also visit the local Goethe Institute, hold a master class at George Washington University and give a presentation at the Hungarian Embassy. 
 
On February 18, Budapest's Örökmozgó Cinema will host a birthday party for Szabó, as well as for the Czech director Jirí Menzel, who also turns 70 this month. Menzel's Skylarks on a String and Szabó's Mephisto will be screened for the occasion.
