Directors of opera houses discuss cooperation

The directors agreed that more cross-border exchanges of productions may cope with the strains of cost-cutting in arts budgets in the wake of the financial crisis. The four countries are members of the so called the Visegrad Four or V4, an alliance of four Central European states.

Directors of the Hungarian State Opera House, Kosice State Theatre, Bratislava National Theatre, the Prague State Opera House and the Czech National Theatre as well as the Wielki Theatre in Warsaw attended the meeting.
 
Examples for Hungarian-Slovak cooperation included the Miskolc Bartok Plus International Opera Festival and guest performances by the Hungarian State Opera in Bratislava, Peter Himic, head of Kosice State Theatre said. He noted that 2013 will be a year of many opportunities when Kosice will hold the title of cultural capital of Europe jointly with Marseille.
