The trio, with Donny McCaslin on tenor saxophone, Scott Colley on bass and Antonio Sanchez on drums, will be joined by Hungary's own Dresch Quartet, with Mihály Dresch on saxophone, Mátyás Szandai on bass, István Baló on drums and Miklós Lukács on cimbalom.
Donny McCaslin, 42, started playing the tenor saxophone at the age of twelve, encouraged by his father, a high school English teacher and jazz musician. He played with this high school's big band, touring Europe, and he performed in the Monterey Jazz Festival's California all-star band three years in a row. McCaslin studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston and moved to New York City in 1991, quickly finding work with bassist Eddie Gomez. Gomez introduced Donny to vibraphonist Mike Manieri, which led to work with Steps Ahead. McCaslin received a Grammy nomination in 2004 for his work with the Maria Schneider Orchestra on Concert in the Garden. In 2008, music critics put McCaslin on Down Beat Magazine's Rising Star list.
