Dream Theater Prepares for Budapest

English

The band, formed in 1985, released a new album, A Dramatic Turn of Events, in the autumn and brought the new material on a North American tour in September and October. A tour of Europe will start in January and Dream Theater will play in Budapest?s Papp László Budapest Sport Arena on February 17.

?We played a total of 22 concerts in North America and each one turned out fantastic. We felt great, but more importantly, the audience did too. We needed that, considering we came through a pretty difficult period, when were quite uncertain about what would come next. I think things have turned in a good direction, which is shown by the good reception of the new album,? the band?s keyboardist, Jordan Rudess, said in an exclusive interview with the Hungarian News Agency.

Rudess explained that Mike Portnoy, Dream Theater?s drummer and one of its founders, left the band in September of 2010, after 25 years. He was replaced in May by Mike Mangini.

Although fans could interpret the change as inspiration for the title of the new album, Rudess said there was no relation.

Dream Theatre first played in Hungary in 1998, in Budapest?s Petőfi Csarnok. Coincidentally, Rudess, who joined the band in 1999, was the opener at the show, playing in the Rudess Morgenstein Project.

Since then, the band has performed in Hungary 2000, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2009 and, most recently, in august at the FEZEN festival in Székesfehérvár.
