The play was performed late in the evening in the old town square. Even though the performance was in Hungarian, this was little matter to the Croatian audience, for whom the play was required reading in school, said Csokonai Theatre director Attila Vidnyánszky. Walking around the city the next day, the troupe met many locals who expressed their appreciation for the performance, he added.
The theatre has been invited to perform the piece again in Zagreb on September 20 and in Split some time during the winter, Vidnyánszky said.
The Csokonai Theatre will perform Dundo Maroje at the summer festival of Szentendre next week. The piece will premiere in Debrecen on October 2.
