We have tried to suit the needs of the audience and meet the artists? ambitions, as well as the expectations of the Budapest Festival Centre, said Erzsébet Zsilinszky Protovin, who head?s Eger?s Tourism and Culture Office. Protovin added that a number of artists from the city itself would continue to enrich the festival this year.

A concert by the Eger Symphony Orchestra will kick off the festival. The concert will feature works by Béla Bartók and Mozart to mark the 125th anniversary of Bartók?s birth and the 250th anniversary of Mozart?s birth.

In the following days, the Eger Festival Ballet will present a new production of Tschaikowsky?s ?Swan Lake?, choreographed by prize-winning dancer Dóra Barta, and the Agria Dance Sport Association will stage an International Latin and Standard Ballroom Dance competition with dancers from 20 countries around the world. The city has also offered to accommodate other events during the festival, such as the Contemporary Puppet Art Festival, involving young puppeteers from the region, and the 3rd Monodrama Festival, organised by the Géza Gárdonyi Theatre, which will include a performance by the Romanian Jewish Theatre as well as by groups from other European countries. A Jazz Celebration will also be part of the festival, as will a Raypainting Celebration to greet the spring.

The local council of Eger has allocated HUF 8.5 million to organise the Spring Festival. In addition to individual tickets, discount combined passes will be available for the first time this year at the booking office of the Gárdonyi Géza Theatre at Széchenyi u. 5 in Eger.
