The project, which aims to showcase young composers and performers, is the brainchild of a Flemish festival association, Orsolya Erdödy, the director of the Hungarofest Klassz Music Office, said after returning from a meeting of the European Festival Association in Italy. Already, seven European countries have joined the project, including France and Sweden - Hungary would need just 5-7 million forints to cover the cost involved with its own participation, she added.

To join the project, each country must organise a festival that deals with contemporary arts, such as the Budapest Autumn Festival, and broadcast a concert on the radio of a work by a young composer who would then tour several countries in Europe.

Hungary will host the European Festival Association's general meeting in April 2011, when the country takes the rotating European Union presidency.

The European Festival Association has three Hungarian members: the Budapest Festival Centre, the Haydn in Esterháza Festival and the Bartók+ International Opera Festival of Miskolc.
