In his opening speech, Hiller welcomed the museum directors to Budapest and praised their "inspiring and progressive" direction of thought. He also pledged the support of Hungary's government and its cultural policy to further this progressive way of thinking.
Hungary wishes to make cultural developments with the European Union's support, Hiller said, noting that the country has applied for EU funding to pay for a planned expansion of Budapest's Museum of Fine Arts.
Hiller asked the museum directors to view Hungary and Hungarian museums as partners in the future.
