Exhibition Shows History of Cycling in Capital

English

The show, called FreeCikli, will run from September 4 until November 14. It will include graphic art, photographs, guides, posters, films and, of course, bicycles that reflect the culture of cycling in Budapest for the past 150 years.

The exhibition is divided into three parts: the appearance and adoption by the capital?s residents of the bicycle as an instrument of entertainment; the bicycle?s role as tool that supported women?s emancipation at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th; and the fashion and subculture cycling has created in the capital today.

About a hundred bicycles, all extraordinary, most from private collections, are at the centre of the show.

The writer Pál Závada will open the exhibition on September 4 and Critical Mass organizer Gábor Kürti will say a few words.
