The oleander, pomegranate, cherry laurel, crape myrtle and windmill palm trees arriving from Italy have been embedded in 40 colourful ceramic pots to stand on the huge Szechenyi Square, said chief architect Zsolt Szecsi.

The trees measure 4 to 5 metres on the average and offer a spectacular look to visitors in the city, which is known for its Mediterranean-type climate, he added.

Zsolt Pava, the mayor of Pecs, said the city is spending 50 million forints (EUR 177,000) offered by a construction firm to decorate the square with flowers.
