The documentary, commissioned by the museum, presents an overview of the formation of the group, their exhibitions and the members? bohemian lifestyles.
The film was shot in Paris, Nyergesújfalu, Körtélyes and locations around Budapest. It includes archival radio interviews, films and other documents.
The screening will be followed by a roundtable discussion with Museum of Fine Arts director László Baán, the filmmaker and art historians Gergely Barki and Sára Schilling, and the director Péter Szalay. The discussion will be hosted by deputy director of the Hungarian National Gallery György Szücs. Peter Vergo, a professor from the Essex University Art History Department, will be a special guest.
The Eight, which included Lajos Tihanyi, Károly Kernstok, Róbert Berény, Bertalan Pór, Dezső Czigány, Béla Czóbel, Ödön Márffy and Dezső Orbán, were influenced by Paul Cézanne, Fauvism and Art Nouveau.
An exhibition of their work is on display in the Museum of Fine Arts until September 12.
