Film Portal Names "Taxidermia" Best European Film of 2006

English

The portal's editor and film critic Boyd van Hoeij told Hungarian film portal moziplussz.hu that "Taxidermia" was an easy choice.

"2006 has been quite a mediocre year and only a few films stood out, so it was not difficult to say that I had seen nothing better than Taxidermia," van Hoeij said.

Van Hoeij plans to visit the Budapest Film Festival in February, remarking that he finds Hungarian cinema very exciting. He even recently organised a Hungarian film week through his portal.

Second on van Hoeij's list of the top ten Best European Films of 2006 was Norwegian skateboarder-cum-director Joachim Trier's "Reprise", which won two awards at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival. Third on the list was Finnish newcomer Aku Louhimies' "Frozen City." Of last year's big-budget productions, only "Perfume" appeared on the list, in fifth place.

Absent from the list were several films by big directors, such as Almodóvar's "Volver", Ken Loach's Cannes Palm D'Or winner "The Wind that Shakes the Barley", Stephen Frears' "Queen" and Guillermo del Toro's "Pan's Labyrinth".
