Diana Square, in the city centre, will get new pavement, benches and a fountain. Trees will be planted and fresh grass laid.
Six more public spaces in the city will undergo renovation at the same time. The entire project - which aims to create spaces where visitors as well as locals can meet and linger -- is expected to take seven months.
The remaining three big projects are expected to start in May and June, said Pécs2010 Management Centre managing director Csaba Ruzsa.
The 2010Pécs programme has a budget of HUF 45 billion, of which HUF 35.6 billion will go toward the biggest projects.
