Jansson?s book ?Comet in Moominland? will be presented at a roundtable discussion at the Alexandra Literary Café on Saturday afternoon, Napkút Publishing House?s director György Szondi said. The book is the first of several of Jansson?s Moomin books which will be published in Hungary.
Panna Vukovári, who translated ?Comet in Moominland?, said Hungarian children will be captivated by the Moomins? adventures, while adults will be equally enticed by the strange characters? calm in the face of disaster.
Pál Szeles of Duna TV said the broadcaster was pleased to be involved in the publication of the series. He noted that Duna TV had recently started airing a Japanese animation series based on the adventures of the Moomins.
Tove Jansson (1914-2001) was an ethnic Swede who was born and lived in Finland. Her books about the Moomins, written between 1945 and 1970, grew so popular they inspired cartoons, comic books, theatre adaptations and even an opera. Today, the Tampere Art Museum has a permanent exhibition of the valley of Moomins, and there is a Moominworld amusement park near the city of Naantali.
