Fischer Takes Third in Gramophone Contest
Fischer finished behind the American violinist Hilary Hahn and the Russian soprano Anna Netrebko.
Fischer, who is musical director of the Budapest Festival Orchestra and has a two-year appointment as principal conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington D.C., won a Gramophone award - considered by many to be the Oscar of the classical music world - for his recording with the BFO of Bartók's The Miraculous Mandarin ten years ago.
Fischer was one of ten nominations for the Artist of the Year award.
