János Egri has been named a finalist in the jazz category, Ferenc Kovács and Magdi Rúzsa are finalists in the blues category, Balázs Zságer will be in the dance/electronic finals, and Gyula Papp will compete in the instrumental finals.
The finalists will be judged by a jury of professionals including Tom Waits, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ornette Coleman, Joe Satriani, John Mayall, John Scofield, and Cassandra Wilson. Winners will be announced in April.
Last year, the Hungarian Péter Sárik was a finalist in the jazz category, and the Hungarian act Fabula Rasa were finalists in the world music category.
Listeners may vote for their favourite songwriters on the contest's website until February 27.
