János Balázs, Balázs Demény, Nicolas Namoradze, Márton Takáts and Krisztina Taraszova are among twelve pianists who made it to the semi-finals. The others are from Russia, Ukraine, Korea, Japan and the UK.
The semi-finalists will accompany Liszt songs in the Old Music Academy on Wednesday and Thursday. Six will qualify for the finals to take place at the weekend.
Awards will be presented at a gala concert at the Palace of Arts on Monday, September 19.
Fifty-three pianists, including 17 from Hungary, started out in the International Piano Competition in Memoriam Ferenc Liszt. The contest was open to musicians under the age of 32.
