(MTI) - The exhibition entitled "The Heydays of the Medicis - Life and Art in Renaissance Florence" comprises 200 pieces of artwork from the period from 60 Italian collections including valuable pieces from Florence's prestigious Uffizi Gallery, Hiller added.
He said the exhibition offers a cross-section of outstanding pieces by the era's renaissance masters such as Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Verrocchio, Donatello, Fra Angelico, Bronzino and Vasari. One of the most noteworthy is the "Pallas and the Centaur" by Sandro Botticelli from 1482, he said.
The exhibition sheds a special spotlight onto the Medicis in the 14-15th century, when they became powerful and influential in sponsoring and collecting Italian renaissance art.
The exhibition, insured at 315 million euros, will run until May 18.
It has been organised under the 2008 Renaissance Year in Hungary, a programme marking the 550th anniversary of the ascension of King Matthias - the Renaissance king - to the Hungarian throne in 1457.
