The four-day event kicked off with a colourful procession by the participating dance troupes.

Dance troupes from seven countries - Hungary, Bulgaria, Estonia, India, Japan, Lithuania and Italy - are participating at this year's meeting.

The dancers will perform at several different venues around the city, including open-air stages in the city's main Dobó Square; in the "Valley of Beautiful Women", a suburb well-known for its wine cellars; and on an indoor stage at the Béla Bartakovics Community Centre.

The festival will offer a number of events for children, and children and adults alike will enjoy a concert by the Japanese percussion group Kiyo-Kito.

The 19th Agria International Folk Dance Meeting is sponsored by the local council of Eger and the National Cultural Fund.
