Folk Ensemble to Perform ?Magyar Concerto?

English

The ensemble will perform ?Magyar Concerto? at the Palace of Arts at 19:00 on November 29, a little more than a month before starting their US tour.

?Magyar Concerto? is dubbed an ?homage to Béla Bartók? and demonstrates the great composer?s fusion of folk tradition and the modern. The production is complex dance theatre, drawing on folk as well as contemporary music, and using the most modern dramaturgical tools.

A critic for classical music publication Fidelio writes that ?the spectacularly whirling diversity of Hungarian folk dance, the acrobatic virtuosity of the male dances, the lyric nature of the female dances, and the magic of the love exuded by the couple dances make these dances rare cultural gifts -- a gorgeous and inspiring sight.?

Magyar Concerto is directed and choreographed by Gábor Mihályi. The assistant director is Péter Gerzson Kovács. Music for the piece was composed by Gergely Ágocs, László Kelemen, István Pál, and Ferenc Radics.
