Among the foreign participants at this year?s colony are the sculptor and painter Rudolf Kocsis, who teaches at the Timisoara University in Romania; the graphic artists and painter Maria Balea, also from Romania; and the painters Jaroslaw Kweclich and Tadeus Kosela, both of the Jan Dlugosz University of Czestochowa in Poland.
László Lonovics, one of the colony?s organisers, said the aim of the gathering was to foster ties between local artists and their peers elsewhere in Europe. Before Hungary?s transformation to a multi-party democracy, Békéscsaba hosted a graphic arts biennial for 15 years, and the artists colony attempts to make up for its discontinuation, he explained.
