Four Hungarian Artists Selected to Compete for Henkel Art.Award

Works by Ádám Kokesch and Gergely Hory were selected in the installation category, and the team of Kornél Szilágyi and Nándor Hevesi, which use the moniker Ivan and Igor Buharov, in the video category.

 
The works, picked from more than 120 submissions, will be assessed by a jury in Vienna in September. The winner of the prize, which comes with a EUR 7,000 purse, will be announced in the autumn.
 
German household products maker Henkel called the contest for the ninth time this year. Artists were invited to submit works in three categories: painting and graphic works, photography and video, and installations. 
 
The local jury also gave special acknowledgments to Emese Bács, Nikolett Pályi, Péter Szabó and the artist couple János Borsos and Lilla Lőrinc.
 
The jury was chaired by the art the historian and curator Judit Angel, whose work was recognised with a Lajos Németh prize in 2008. Its members included the artist and teacher at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts Szabolcs Kiss Pál, artist and teacher at the Pécs University Art Cepartment and the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Csaba Nemes, and the art historian and lecturer at the visual communications department of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design and founding editor of fotopost.hu Gábor Pfisztner.
 
?It was a well-balanced assortment from the point of the number and quality of different media,? said Angel of the submissions.
 
The winner of the competition will have the opportunity to organize an exhibition in his or her home country with Henkel's support as wll as at the Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig (MUMOK).
