Four Hungarian Films Compete for European Film Awards

English

The last Hungarian film nominated in the European Discovery category was György Pálfi?s ?Hukkle? in 2002. Pálfi took the award that year.

In addition to ?Fresh Air?, Szabolcs Hajdu?s ?White Palms? and György Pálfi?s ?Taxidermia? will compete in the feature film category, and Bálint Kenyeres?s ?Before Dawn? will compete for the short film award. ?Before Dawn? was automatically included in the competition after it won the United International Pictures (UIP) short film award at the Tampere Film Festival in March.

?Fresh Air?, which shows the deep but little apparent bonds between a mother and her daughter, won the award for best directorial debut at this year?s Hungarian Film Festival. The film has been screened at several other international film festivals since.

The 19th European Film Awards will take place in Warsaw on December 2.

Founded in 1989, the European Film Academy includes 1,700 European film professionals with the common aim of promoting European film culture. Throughout the year, the EFA initiates and participates in a series of activities dealing with film politics as well as economic, artistic, and training aspects. The programme includes conferences, seminars and workshops, and a common goal is to build a bridge between creativity and the industry. These activities culminate in the annual presentation of the European Film Awards.
